What should I do with my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum. I watch a lot of Scotty's videos and decided that I would come here for help. I had written down all of my codes but can't find the paper as of this writing. Here goes: I drive a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. I bought the vehicle used many years ago (2006). The vehicle now has roughly 255,000 miles on it. For the past six years years or so, I have been having problems here and there. My latest issue is a transmission shift module ( occasional check engine light) and I had to get towed off the freeway for a loss of power. My RPMs we're revving at 5,000/6,000 RPMs but no acceleration. It also smelled like something was getting hot. Not burning but hot metal smell. I got the vehicle home and used a cheap OBD reader from Walmart and although I don't have the codes right now I know I had a multiple cylinder misfire, a catalyst failure, and sensor 1 bank 1 code. I changed the spark plugs and spark plug coils, and one of the sensors. I drove the vehicle up the street and back. The vehicle shifts good at normal speed and it appears that my RPMs are ok. When I try to punch the gas pedal, I'm getting low power and a rattle underneath the vehicle along with that hot metal smell. OBD reader only picked up the transmission code, no check engine light at all. I was getting a check engine light after the plugs and coils but no more. I did have to put in a new battery which maybe erased everything but I drove it and ran it for over 40 minutes and no check engine light. My transmission fluid is a dark brown color. I noticed the color change when it broke down. At least today I was able to drive it out the driveway way and up and down the street. I was able to do that before the little work I did. Is it worth it to fix or find out what's really wrong? Or with the mileage should I junk it. The engine still runs ok when idle, I just can't figure out what else is wrong. Any suggestions? I really love my Jeep.

Your transmission is going out and is going to need replacement. If you want to replace it, buy a remanufactured transmission. Junk yard transmissions are a gamble.

Which engine does this vehicle have 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8 or 5.7 Hemi?

Hello, thanks for responding. It's a 3.7 liter 6 cylinder.

Here's what I would do also before looking at any transmission replacements. You said you had a misfire on the motor. Have a compression test (wet and dry) done on that motor. If the motor needs to be rebuilt then do not bother putting a remanufactured transmission in.

Ok. I will definitely have to take it to a mechanics shop for further diagnosis then. I really appreciate your help with my question.
