It has 174,000 miles and the owner says theres no other problems with it besides regular maintenance, is there anything else i should look out for?

A mechanic to get it checked out. He might say the truth but you never know what shape it really is. Also look if it has a wrecked title, the procedure might be different depending on where you live.
If you want to gamble a bit and not pay for an inspection, look at everything you can on the car. Under the hood, rust, noises, good test drive. Scotty has some videos on how to inspect a used car.
