  • Hi there is so much information out there some that contradicts others. I have started watching videos by scotty Kilmer and have gotten some good info. But I want to buy a new car/cross over. In the next year or 2. I have had ford, chevy, honda and they all had problems. I want to give toyota a try this go round. I dont want to buy a used car because I dont know that much about cars and no one to help who does. I want to play it safe and buy new so fear of car history isnt an issue. But now with these videos I'm seeing stay away from cvt trans and 8 speed transmissions and all wheel drive because of expense and unproven reliability. And then info saying go with the 4cyl engines for easier maintenance but 4cyl are notorious oil burners. Can someone tell me if a brand new vehicle with proven reliability good engine, transmission exists? Looking for as much info as possible. Year/engine size/type of trans. Ect. Thank you for your help!!!!

  1. What size vehicle do want? Suv or sedan/hatch back. I would probably get the correla with the 1.8 and a manual. That is a bullet proof formula with a good track record.

Really want a crossover. Crh? Rav 4. But if not affordable then have to go with a car. Would have to be automatic

I would prefer the rav 4 but the chr would be cheaper and little more "car" like.

If you can drive manual and want sedan then yeah a manual Corolla or a manual Civic is the best choice. But if you want automatic then I don't see any issues with buying a cvt Toyota; they make good ones and have been making it for some time now. If you need suv then there is the rav4, highlander, the smaller Corolla Cross and you can pick based on your needs.

The Toyota CVT transmissions seem to be pretty reliable. Can’t go wrong with a brand new Corolla. The early 8 speed transmissions were shifting odd at first but it can be fixed with a software update but even then, it was more of an annoyance than a reliability issue. But the new Camrys seem to shift a lot better than the 2018/2019s. Already seen a few of the 2018/2019s with 150k+ miles still going strong. My 2019 Camry got the software update and it acts pretty normal now.
