Wheel hub Installation

Five years ago I changed wheel hubs on my 2008 Veracruz. I bought the wrong ones on the internet and never got around to returning them. Ended up buying the right ones locally.

I put them on Ebay recently just to get rid of them. Still sealed in the boxes. I got the email from an angry mechanic. He asked if I ever dropped them. He said if you drop them they are toast. The bearings get dinged making the hubs no good. They sat on a shelf all this time in my garage  but he insisted that they must have been dropped and I should not be selling them. Is this guy right? These things are shipped all over the country. How could shocks be avoided? How could you tell? They look pristine.

I am going to sell them anyway. I remember in the seventies I worked in a TV shop. The boss complained that Radio Shack was cutting into his business by selling electronic parts to the general public. He drove a Lincoln Town Car. I drove a used Pinto. They may never sell. The shipping is expensive for 20 pounds of stuff. There are a lot of companies selling hubs free shipping. If they don't sell they will go out with the trash. I notice the supply of these parts is drying up. When I bought these 5 years ago they were $30 a piece. Now they are well over one hundred if you can get them. I am selling them for what I paid for them. The car they were supposed to go into I don't have anymore.

No. A normal hub can withstand being dropped.

You probably don't want to drop it on one of the studs or on the plastic speed sensor on the back.

sure. But the bearings are fine. They are hardened steel.

Tell the guy to file a damage claim with the shipper.  You delivered them to the shipper in good condition,  NEXT!

Wrong. The transport company will simply tell him to contact the seller. Unless otherwise agreed, the shipping contract is always between the seller and the transport company. The transport company has absolutely nothing to say to the receiving party. It's up to the seller to make sure that the appropriate service is chosen, and that precautions are taken so the product arrives in satisfactory condition.
