I just commented about this in that other thread. You're right @daywalker as never have I heard this mentioned by Scotty. (Perhaps I missed the video)
Oil sitting 5 minutes in a warm engine.. that's plenty of time for the oil to settle in the pan.
He says to check first thing in the morning when engine is cold. That’s nonsense.
I always thought it is best after a warm engine.
A while ago, I tried experimenting with checking overnight, and after warm up. But counted the warm up more as to the actual level!
Just follow your service manual.
Here's Scotty himself saying this. Technically I'm wrong, you want to check the oil after it sits on a flat surace, overnight. (41) Checking Your Engine Oil? You’re Doing It Wrong - YouTube

It's what Scotty said, not me.
The service manual for my 3 cars just indicate to check the engine oil when it is warm (and on flat level of course). They mention to wait a few minutes after engine is shut off (so oil can drain back to oil pan) before checking it, not half an hour. Yet, someone on this forum mentioned that Scotty said to check after 30 minutes.
.
Which is correct? Did Scotty misspeak? I don’t have patience to wait 30 minutes and neither do mechanics that get paid to do this service.
