it's just a common off the shelf socket, sold at any tool & hardware store.

Yeah but it rotates and spins so you can easily unscrew the lugnut!

I don't know what you mean. It's a normal socket on a hinged breaker bar. You can see Scotty spinning the whole tool in the video.

It looks like just an ordinary 1/2" drive breaker bar with a long handle and an appropriately sized socket for the lug nuts. I have a few breaker bars like that kicking around. Mine are mostly from Harbor Freight but you can get that kind of thing just about anywhere that tools are sold.

I'm going to try to replace my cv axles on my car since they are torn.

I'm sure you mean the grease boots are torn. Not the axle.
If there's no noise or slop in the axle then you don't need to replace them yet. They can still last a while. Even longer if you can keep replacing the grease.

In this video scotty uses some FAT sockets. Is there a set out there of just the fat ones?

I'm guessing you're referring to the axle nut. Sure, large sockets come in various sets. But chances are you'll never end up using most of them. Might be better just to buy singles as needed.

Oh wow. No, no noise or slop in the axle. A local shop said my boots are torn though. So I should just replace the boots? Is that how I replace the grease like you are saying?

So I should just replace the boots?

To replace the boots you need to remove the axle. It's not worth it, and you might as well replace the axle at that point.

Yes, once the boot is torn, the axle will begin to lose grease, and eventually it will wear itself out. But that could take a long time.

If you have a grease gun, you can buy an injector needle tip for it and squirt some grease directly into the CV joint that way.

interesting product. Let us know how well it works.

I've tried split boots like that ages ago, they don't hold up for very long before coming apart. These days I just replace the entire axle.

A hinged breaker bar. There we go. I just needed the right name so I could locate it. Thx guys.

yes sockets are receptacles with holes shaped to receive a corresponding part. Light socket, tooth socket, hip socket, nut socket etc.

Thx a ton. I'm going to try to replace my cv axles on my car since they are torn. In this video scotty uses some FAT sockets. Is there a set out there of just the fat ones? I'll have to check Harbor tomorrow.

That's way easier haha. I'll do that. I found this video. Thought it looked easy enough.

Do I have to use a specific kind of grease?

normal multi purpose grease.

(lithium complex, NLGI grade 1, 1.5 or 2)

Will do! Now I just need to figure out what size boot I have on my 2001 buick park avenue.
