Hello my name is devendar bhati from India . Which car is the best to buy under 15k $ in India.
The Honda City with a manual transmission is a very good car in India. I don't really know what they sell for, but I have a couple relatives in India with those cars and they seem to be very happy with them.
Only options which are available with this budget are Honda City, Toyota Yaris, & Honda WRV so whether to buy suv or Sadan with this budget?
Up to you. I would imagine the City will be easier to maneuver and find parking for since it’s smaller - I know how crowded Indian street parking is
I want to keep my car for very long period of time. Toyota Yaris is 3 lac cheaper as compare to Honda city . So my question is what is the reputation of Yaris as reliability In market. Yaris sales are not high as compare to city. That’s why I am confused. So please guide so that I can take right decision.
$15,000 is what 11 lacs?
If you want a hatchback, get the Honda Jazz. If you want a small sedan, get the Yaris or the City.
There is no proper SUV on sale in India for 11 lacs, what you’re referring to is compact crossovers (raised hatchbacks) such as the Ecosport, Vitara, etc.
You can buy a used Corolla with that budget, and get a much better vehicle than what you would, if buying another new car.
I want to keep my car for very long period of time. Toyota Yaris is 3 lac cheaper as compare to Honda city . what is the reputation of Yaris as reliability In market. Yaris sales are not high as compare to city. Is there any problem with Yaris . That’s why I am confused. Please guide so that I can take right decision. And I want to buy automatic transmission Car.
The Toyota will probably last the longest among the rest of your options, within that price range. Both the Yaris & City have 1.5L NA engines with CVT transmissions. Historically, the Honda automatic transmissions are slightly inferior when compared to Toyota automatic transmissions. In your case however, for 11 lacs, your only option is the base Yaris J CVT Opt as the City V CVT is 14 lacs. If you like the Yaris, by all means, go ahead. The City probably has a nicer interior and fresher design, but it’s over your budget. Both the Yaris & City will be ultra reliable & cheap to maintain, compared to the other brands.
Thank you 🙏 for your suggestion.. I also want to know what you think about Hyundai creta & Kia seltos which are top selling in this segment.. there base variants are also in my budget.. & how Yaris is better from these.
Don’t be like cattle & blindly follow the herd. Those two vehicles are among the worst choices you could possibly make, if you keep your vehicles for long. They both also suffer from random brake failure, among other serious issues - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian-car-scene/223242-hyundai-india-occasional-serious-quality-lapse-apathetic-manufacturer-response.html
And In which transmission should I buy Yaris with. As I have said that I want to keep my car for very long period of time. So which has longer life manual or CVT transmission.
@devendar The manual Yaris can probably last forever, if you follow good maintenance. However, if you live in a crowded city & don’t want to wear out your left knee, pick the CVT. Toyota makes the best CVT transmissions, so it should last a really long time, too. Just make sure you change the CVT fluid every 30,000-40,000 kms owing to the hot & humid Indian traffic conditions. All else being equal, the manual transmission will outlast the CVT.
All answers of my questions by InTrustWeTrust is given by scotty Kilmer?
Nope, I’m not Scotty Kilmer.
So who are you an automotive expert ?
I’m just helping out answering car questions on this website. I certainly don’t have the 52 yrs of experience which Scotty Kilmer has. If you wish to have your question answered exclusively by Scotty, send him an email or maybe you’ll get lucky & he’ll answer it personally, either here or in his YouTube videos. All the best.
I think InTrustWeTrust answered brilliantly. I doubt Scotty will have much to say about cars in India.
Thank you for your support..and I have also seen Toyota Corolla altis 2016 & 2017 used in this budget.. do you think that corolla is also a good option.. corolla is a large Sadan..is it good to think about that as I think the fuel economy may not be good?
The Corolla is the better vehicle compared to the Yaris/City. I think fuel economy should only be marginally lower than them. How much are you expecting anyway? Any petrol automatic vehicle will return poor fuel economy if driven in stop & go city traffic. However with any used vehicle, you need to have it thoroughly checked by a professional mechanic/Toyota dealer, before you buy it. For what it’s worth, the Corolla is the most reliable car sold in the world. It should easily last 1,000,000 kms if the owner takes good care of the vehicle & services it regularly.
I am expecting 10kmpl from corolla in city and 13 to 15 Kmpl on highway from petrol corolla. But in an image of MID online corolla is giving 5.6 kmpl and if this the truth mileage of this Sadan is not good I think.. do you know actual mileage of corolla?
I also think that petrol prices will go very high in the future and rules will become more strict towards Petrol & diesel cars. Taxes on cars will also increase as it is already increased in India recently. Becides this Elon musk & government both are promoting electric vehicles but I think electric vehicles are not practical that’s because price of electric vehicle is high & it take a lot of time to charge them.. I think hydrogen cars are the future? Back to my point I like corolla look vise and I am going Delhi( capital) to drive corolla. Then I will decide. I want see it’s mileage by myself.
Fuel efficiency will really depend on driving habits & traffic conditions. Was the image showing 5.6 km/l or 100km/5.6l? Either way, test drive the Corolla & reset the average fuel consumption display before you start your test drive & check it later. That should give you an approximate figure.
I don’t think any country in the world is ready to switch over to electric just yet, so it’s still going to be a long time before electric vehicles become the norm. I don’t see how regular Indians (and regular people all over the world) can afford to buy $30,000 electric vehicles when all they can afford are $5-10,000 used petrol vehicles. If you can find a Civic, that too may be a good alternative to the Corolla. Around the world, they’re both known to be fuel efficient vehicles. Good luck!
Hello I have decided to book the Yaris but yesterday evening I read a news that Toyota Yaris will be discontinued by the end of this month. So my question is that is it to buy a car which is soon going to be discontinued. As there are also options available like Honda WRV and Honda City. I know that both Toyota and Honda are good brands. But I think if I paying for something that something should be the best. Also want to know which car is good to go with petrol or diesel. My running is very less buying car for weakends, tours and occasional family trips. Price of petrol and diesel are like same here in India. Please share your suggestions.
Hello?
Sir actually bs4 honda city is in my budget with Yaris that why I am asking this questions please share you valuable opinion.
I would try to go for a Toyota or honda. I'm not sure what models they have in India but a Toyota or a Honda would be a good bet.
Only cars which are available in India with this budget are Toyota Yaris , Honda WRV, Honda City
Any of those cars will be ok, personally, I would go with the Yaris.
So the automatic transmission of Yaris is good or it’s better to buy manual transmission Yaris? I mean what you think about transmissions. As I want to keep my car for long period of time.
Whatever you can get parts for/fixed
Honda Jazz, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Auris...

Question, which Yaris do you have over there?
This Toyota hatchback

or this latest Mazda designed "Toyota" Yaris?

If its the first, the automatics should be bulletproof and I'd get that for India traffic.
For the second, the Mazda manuals are better than their automatics but the automatics are decent enough.
It’s the proper Yaris with the 2NR-FE 1.5L engine with 7 step CVT.

Oh then definitely consider the Yaris. Good gas mileage with the CVT and the Toyota NR engines should be very reliable. Other option would be a Honda Jazz.
Yup, the City is the Jazz sedan, which is extremely popular in Asia.
Hmm, reviewers in Eurasia have say the Yaris is the more balance smart choise. I'd look into the Yaris/Corolla/Jazz/City
If they have a Corolla hatch like the Auris I'd also check that out.
As far as I’m aware, the 4th generation Honda City sold in India is only available with a manual transmission. The car itself is extremely reliable and a Honda with a manual transmission can basically last forever.
Have you test driven it already? If not, I recommend you test drive both the 4th & 5th generation City & see if they fulfil your requirements. The interior quality is slightly improved in the 5th generation.
Honda India has a discount running on the City, however, you may be able to bargain harder -

All the best!
Hello sir thank you for your suggestions. Toyota Yaris is already discontinued in India so can you please suggest me few very good cars which are available in India. I personally like Honda city 5th gen.. please tell me if there is any car available..which is better than this one ..is scarpio and XUV300 are good options??
You can’t compare the Honda City to crossover/SUVs. If you like the Honda City, stick to it. It’s a good choice.
