I work at a Domino's and a co-worker of mine is about to graduate high school. He says that he wants a Jeep. Which model of Jeep should he get/which Jeep-like vehicle should he get? He'd like to go off-roading. I know to stay away from Land Rover. We live in Los Angeles.
Really the best Jeeps were the ones with the old straight-six engine (4.0 or 258), but those are really old now. (Newest Wrangler with the 4.0 is 2006.)
Best Jeep ever was my 1981 CJ7 with a 258 -6 and a manual trans. Wish I still had it.
If they must have one, a Wrangler is the only one they really should consider of the new Jeep products. The Jeep Renegade is a badge engineered Fiat. Pre-Fiat Chrysler Wranglers will be better quality than anything they make that's new. I'd look for an early 2000s Wrangler, that's when it was known as Daimler Chrysler, and their products were actually improving under that management. Now it's Stellantis, which is Fiat, Peugeot and Chrysler all bundled in one. Scotty calls them the Three Stooges of car manufacturing.
Toyota Land Cruisers would be a much better choice, but those are getting more rare, expensive and are becoming collector's items.
Tell him to get a TJ wrangler. They’re cheap and hold value. Fix everything that needs fixing, and trade it for a 4Runner when he saves enough money.

I agree with the Land Cruiser if he can find one at a good price (take a look at Bring a Trailer; it's an auction website). Another suggestion is a FJ Cruiser but again those are expensive too. If price is an issue then the 4Runner as they aren't collector ish like Land Cruiser or FJ Cruiser so should be able to find one for less price.
If you are looking new, no new “Jeeps” exist. They are either a Fiat in disguise, or so far gone from what a Jeep is, it only has the outer shell of a a Jeep.
The closet thing you can get to a Jeep is a Wrangler/Rubicon.
