Hi
I have a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro 305 RS. One month ago, my car left me stranded. The mechanic removed the VATS system and worked again. Now it doesn't start anymore. When I turn the key, the Brake and Service Engine Soon light light but the engine does not start. It does not do anything. What could be the reason for it?
If the engine doesn't even crank have you tried hot-wiring the solenoid to see if the starter works at all?
The battery is fully loaded and his videos are not very useful for my problem. My car does not even crank but it does not have any mechanical problem!
Troubleshooting always begins with the simplest things first. So instead of downvoting my answer, you could have stated in your original question that your battery is "fully loaded" (whatever that means). And I know you didn't even go look in the FAQ, because there's a whole section called "DOESN'T CRANK' in which Scotty provides several suggestions. Good luck. Maybe you'll listen to somebody else.
Could be any number of things, from the starter to the solenoid to an ignition system fault.
Unless you are handy at running down issues like that, I'd take it back to the mechanic and pay him to repair it. Wiring on those old GM cars is very poor and running down a fault can drive you to drinking.
read the "car won't start" section in our FAQ and see if any of Scott's videos help you
I don't know where the solenoid is
Could it be the battery after all as the weather is getting colder like the last time it left me stranded?
You could take the battery to an auto parts store and ask them to load test the battery. (call first to see if they can perform the test)
That would at least rule out if the battery is creating the issue.
