Why will my 1996 Geo only start and run if ether is sprayed into it

I have a 1996 Geo Tracker with a 1.6 engine. It is 4WD. It had been parked for 2 years before I bought it. It was running before it was parked. While it was parked it had the throttle position sensor removed . It was difficult to start and missed when I first got it. I replaced the fuel pump. It continued to act like it was fuel starved. I have replaced the crankshaft sense, the distributor and fuel pressure gage also. It has new plugs. Now it will only start and run when ether is sprayed into it. Any ideas

If it sat for 2 years and no stabilizer was put in the gas the entire fuel system likely needs to be cleaned out. Modern ethanol-laced gas deteriorates within a few months. Your injectors are probably clogged up.

Simply enough: it doesn't start the normal way because it does not get -usable- fuel the normal way.

For diagnosing: follow the fuel!

I had asked a question previously about my 1996 Geo. It was parked for a couple years. It had run before being parked. I have replaced the throttle sensor ( which was missing when I bought it ), the distributor, fuel pump and filter plus injector relay.  I have checked all the hoses.I also replaced the fuel pressure relay. Previously when I asked you suggested cleaning the injectors. I did this but it still will only start if I spray ether in the throttle body and dies when ether is consumed. I have no idea what else to try.  I have had the computer checked. I visit your site often. I am a great fan.
