I’m Hello all, we recently sold my wife’s 2017 Jeep Renegade. We are looking to buy something more reliable for the long term. When it’s paid off in a year or so I’ll be getting it to drive for YEARS to work. My first option is a 2011-2013 Corolla with the 1.8 or a matrix. I don’t mind the 2010-2014 CRV and wouldn’t mind a newer model Mazda 6 but would prefer a manual (wife isn’t on board). Can anybody speak for when Mazda started making better quality vehicles? 2014 or so? No GM, FCA, Kia,Hyundai.

Out of all your options, I’d get the 2013 Corolla/Matrix with the 1.8L

That car will outlast the other two, and cost you the least to maintain.

The prev gen CR-V with the NA engine will be my #2 & the Mazda 6 my #3 since it’s a manual.

Mazda quality started to increase in about 2013 where they brought the Skyactive technology and now Mazda is one of the most reliable brands increasing in quality. A 1.8 Corolla would be a good choise and so would the CR-V. The Mazda  6 is also great. I would get the one that you like the best and whichever one the mechanic says has not to much wear on it.

(if we are talking about 2015+ Mazdas then they are excellent. The mid-2000's Mazda's had Nissan transmissions. the newer ones have deals with toyota and have skyactive transmissions.

Since model year 2016, Mazda 6 quality and reliability has shown an ever-increasing positive curve. It seems they're getting better every year. If you'll consider a really fun car to drive, consider the Miata ?

I would love a Miata. But I’m 6’2 and can’t comfortably fit in one.

Entirely understand. Thought I'd mention it.

2016- present is when toyota started partnering with Mazda hence quality went up

if the corolla fits your needs then go for it. If you need an SUV then the Honda CRV is an excellent choice

if you're looking for 07-11 mazda 6 make sure its paired with the 6 speed auto since its a Aisin/Toyota one and not a nissan made one
