Hi Scotty, love your channel.
Here is a picture of a tiny bit of rust I found on my 2016 toyota gt86 25k miles https://imgur.com/mOUVLxn
It is on the front bonnet (hood) of my car.
Can I spray something like wd40 or silicone on it to stop spreading further?
No.
WD-40 can remove rust and help prevent it returning, true. But that applies to metal objects you can actually soak in WD-40 and scrub down to bare metal with a wire brush. It will not do anything for the spot you have.
Hopefully the Toyota dealer will help you out with it. It looks like it is a rock chip though, and they may write it off as normal wear and tear.
Good luck.
Call the dealership and discuss with the Service Manager.......
This warranty lasts for the first 60 months of your vehicle ownership or your Toyota's first 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Any problems that your vehicle has with corrosion or rust is covered with the Toyota Corrosion coverage. This coverage grants the replacement of any original body panel.
Thanks, looks like Toyotas in the UK have a 12 month rust and perforation warranty, so will check with my dealer hopefully they'll be able to sort it.
I was curious though because you didn't answer my question, if I didn't have warranty would wd40 do the trick on this tiny bit of rust?
If it's metal would Kurust stop it?
No, WD-40 won’t stop rust, it’s a water displacement product.
Once rust starts it doesn’t stop.....
You would have more luck if you call Toyota directly.....
