Hello Everyone!

Jose here once again.  As I mentioned once again, I live in Houston, and I was curious what is the best brand of wipers that I should purchase for this type of weather.

Many thanks to those who help out.

$70 for a pair of wiper blades?  Ain't gonna happen in my lifetime.  I'll just keep buying regular blades, soak them in Son of A Gun protectant overnight and use them for 5 or 6 years thank you.

Thanks, I was looking for an answer like this.

how often should you change regular wipers

when they stop wiping

I mean, basically, yeah. That sums it up. Lol.

I like the Bosch ICON wipers. I'm also in Houston.

Bought low price "Beigaon" silicone refills on Amazon for Honda HRV.

Not sure if they are really silicone, and the fit is looser than the original rubber.

They work so far, but time will tell.

So, my thought is to go with a name brand to be certain.

Shame on the prices.  Fully assembled blades probably come from China at $2.

I haven't tried them. But I do know that , unlike rubber, silicon doesn't stiffen when temps get below freezing. So in theory, they should wipe better in the winter. And silicone doesn't harden and degrade in the heat either.

I want to try them out some day.

Ok, good to know. I'm gonna go ahead and do it.

Right after you win the Lottery, MMJoe.

@doc
you know what if they last longer and wipe better, then I'll happily pay for them. Where I live I deal with a lot of ice and snow, and the cheap blades just don't cut it.

Cool.

Agreed with @Doc, there is no significant benefit of buying silicon wipers they all start to squeak after a point.

IMHO, if you still have the original wiper blade when the car was purchased. The rubber inserts can be replaced for cheap and you can soak them in a treating fluid before you install them.

your specific replacement would look like:

I'm currently using the Rain-X silicone advantages on several of my vehicles. So far so good. I would say they are worth it if they do end up lasting as long as they say they will. I hate having to replace the rubber ones every year in a climate that rains maybe a dozen times a year.

Wow great videos thank you so much that definitely will help me make my decision for the next purchase I was just very disappointed that the original factory didn’t last more than six months on my Subaru.

I bought michelin endurance xt silicone. Definitely expensive but they have lived up to the claim of lasting quite a long time. I live in northern new england, brutal on wipers with fluctuating temps, salt, ice, snow, rain. I bought them almost 2 years ago! I would buy them again.

You want to go with silicone wiper blades as they last the longest.

See here for which one to get (video by mountainmanjoe):

I’ve bought PIAA wipers before and they’re great, but the price has shot up significantly.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Silicone Wiper brand that has a reasonable price?  I used to be able to buy the 26” PIAA for around 20 dollars and now it’s close to 40. After taxes shipping etc.

I always buy the latest from Bosch. Their blades work great and, even though they are pricey, they are worth it.

Been able to go 2.5 yrs. on my Silverado and changed with the same. Your change interval will depend on your specific circumstances and where you live. But when they no longer leave a clear windshield it's time to change them.

I always change my wipers when, like @mmj said, they stop wiping. If they are coming apart or brittle, or just smearing water...replace them.

Lifespan can not be nailed down as there are too many variables (how much rain, how hot it gets, etc.). Don't overthink it. If the cheap options work for you, stick with it. I personally am using Bosch Focus blades on my cars and am very satisfied with the results. They even have a monitor on them to tell you when they need replacement. I don't go by it, but I also keep up on my maintenance more than the average person.

I have a 2020 Subaru Impreza. And it’s only been 6 month since I purchase the car and my window wipers blades are really bad and need to be replaced. I remember I had a 2016 VW tiguan and those window wipers blades lasted over 2 years from the dealer. Wow what a difference. I don’t know why that’s a huge difference and quality. Well I’m in the market for a new blades and I want one that could lasted a little bit longer.

I live in Miami Florida.

Hello! I have heard Scotty rant and rave about silicone windshield wipers and I feel I am ready to make the purchase, however, they are gonna run me about $70 for the pair on my 2009 Highlander. Does anybody have further opinions? Thank you.

These are the ones I’m looking at

Hey Scotty, I know how you say that silicone wipers last longer, so I’m just wondering how much longer it is? As well as just for regular maintenance purposes, how often should you change regular wipers and then alternatively how often should you change silicone wipers?
