Looking to get a wireless CarPlay adapter for a 2022 Civic sedan. Was wondering if anyone has used a particular brand/type and would suggest it?

adapter?

I thought Carplay is software system built into entertainment units.

Yeah but there are adapters which you can connect into the USB port of a vehicle that already has CarPlay built into it to make it wireless so you don't have to connect your phone with a cable. Something like the one in the link below:
https://www.amazon.com/Carlinkit-Wireless-Activator-Volkswagen-Original/dp/B08GLVW169

kind of expensive. Isn't it better just to get a new head unit?

It's a 2022 car so it has the built in screen and USB port so it just wouldn't make sense and looks weird putting an aftermarket head unit when it already comes with one.

oh wow so even 2022 models don't come with the latest tricks?

all new cars do come with wired CarPlay, but wireless CarPlay is available only on certain trims depending on the vehicle being purchased.

ahh of course . Gotta squeeze and milk the customer. Just like map updates.

Yeah exactly very true. That's why something like this adapter is much cheaper than moving to a higher trim at least.

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has used a particular brand/type and would suggest it?

I use an "AiBOX" wireless CarPlay adaptor and so far it has been flawless on my 2023 Kia Stonic.

I bought it here (it was around $50):  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004094330653.html

But I did see modules that look exactly the same on the outside sell for less, This is the cheapest listing I found that had the name of my car's brand listed as compatible with steering controls and with its factory screen (it also has Honda listed there although since it's AliExpress I'd be a bit skeptical)

But wireless CarPlay is not that useful, I end up plugging in my phone into a charger and dealing with cables anyway.

I guess it's only useful if your car has wireless charging for if the CarPlay USB port doesn't have enough amperage to charge your phone.

But do you really need wireless CarPlay?

All this hassle over a cable (and shorter battery life)?

It's a convenience feature which I would like to have. I can live without it for sure, but if I can find a reasonably priced adapter then I would prefer having it. Do you mean shorter battery life for my phone? If that's what you meant I usually don't need to charge it in the car, but if I ever need to I can just disconnect the adapter and connect my phone to charge it.

$119 for a nice to have/convenience feature is too much for me, personally. What if it stops working after a month or two? Are you prepared to write it off? Yes, unless you have a new-ish phone, be prepared to charge it frequently when using wireless CarPlay.

All are valid points and I agree with them. But tbh I don't mind the price and it's really not a deal breaker for me even if it stops working in a month or two.

Fair enough then.
