Would you buy a car this way?

My brother in law is given a new company vehicle every 2 years. The vehicles usually have under 50k miles by the time he gets a new one.
He told me he has the option to buy the vehicle before turning it in or he can buy other people in the company car’s. He said if I was interested I can purchase his vehicle or another representatives vehicle and it’s usually priced below kbb. He currently has a 2019 Highlander and they all have to be maintained religiously.

Would you guys do this?

Sounds good if it has been well taken care of and people who derive it in the company didn’t drive it hard. Just make sure that you a mechanic check the car before buying it.

our company does it all the time, they are well maintained, have a waiting list, once sold me a good truck for $3500, got $7000 for it

Sure, I would definitely consider it as long as the vehicle was well maintained and the previous owner(s) in the company did not drive it hard, and a good, independent mechanic checks it out and says it is OK - why not.

depends on the price (I don't trust KBB), condition, and if the driver changed the oil in those 50k

Depends on how it was maintained and what conditions they were used in, thats why a mechanical inspection is so important.

  • If it hasn't been driven hard then why not.

As long as the maintenance has been done, and the price is right, I'd say it could be a good deal.

Thank you everyone. They have to do regular maintenance and upkeep on all vehicles. I know my BIL doesn’t drive crazy but not sure about the others. I’m definitely in favor of going this route instead of the dealership.
