The Chevy dealer put the wrong oil filter in my Chevy Trax I drove that way for 5k. No check engine light ever came on or oil pressure light. Did it harm my engine what should I do? the dealer admitted it was wrong filter. I have an extended warranty? Or is it unlikely it did any damage it has a 1.4 liter eco tect Turbo Charged. Its a 2017 Trax LT 36k miles
If it didn't leak the oil low, and your oil pressure sensor isn't broken, you're probably OK.
But if there was no check engine light or oil pressure light, how did you know it was the wrong oil filter? Did it leak? Did another mechanic spot it? I kind doubt the dealer brought up something you didn't know he did wrong. Heck, Chevy dealers spend large amounts of their days denying that something was wrong or under warranty.
They spend ALL day doing that!
Different dealer found it. So I called prior dealer and they admitted they used the wrong filter. The service manager is calling me Tuesday. The 1st dealer used a PF2257 but its suppose to be a PF2263g one has a spring the other doesnt so basically engine was getting oil but it wasnt being filtered.
Wow. I can sympathize. After having multiple incidents of mechanics not changing oil, over or under-filling, leaving tools under the hood, etc. I started doing my own oil changes and other simple jobs. Not to save money, not for convenience, but to save my vehicles.
