Hey Scotty, love your videos. Got a question for you. I just got a 2005 gmc canyon with the 2.8L 4 cyl. One of the first things I did after getting it was change the engine oil and while doing so I saw yellow gunk on the dip stick. The dealer says its probably condensation. How do I get rid of it? My last truck was a 99 gmc sonoma with the 2.2L 4cyl and it sat alot because I'm gone alot and I've never seen yellow gunk on the dip stick. Please help. Thanks.
Italian tune up.
Take it for a long hard drive. Get the engine cooking hot (probably more than once) and the mayonnaise will melt away. There might still be traces of it left but I wouldn't worry too much.
How is the condensation getting in the oil? Never had this with my last truck
the crankcase is open to atmospheric air which contains moisture. Normally the moisture evaporate when the engine gets hot, but if a car isn't driven enough, the moisture mixes with the oil and gets whipped up into in that yellow gunk, and it tends to collect on spots where there isn't a lot of oil flow. (under the cap etc.)
like joec says, it's not a big problem. As long as you keep the oil at the right level. Apparently, using synthetic oil can help a bit too.
It's condensation. It occurs when you drive almost entirely short distances. I drive a 2005 Tacoma since new now with 216K and drive almost exclusively short distances. Every time I've change my oil since new, yellow gunk is on the underside of the fill cap. Never caused a problem, I just wipe it off when I change the oil
