| Previous posts about the Ford Fusion Most common problems: Power Steering Failure (see more) Transmission Jerks or Hesitates Shifts are Rough Overall I would recommend avoiding the Ford Fusion because of its major problems. You could do better for the money. The Fusion is nearing decent at best. Ford also doesn't care about their customer's safety one bit so recall work or major safety issues that pop up should make you very wary of this vehicle. | |||||

I do admit that the fuse box kick cover kick panel is currently off, but I have a feeling that neither this panel nor this other panel is quite the right one for my household's B2300. | The underbody is a Ford ranger with different bodywork. The ranger is prone to rotting out; rather than constructing the frame as one piece, Ford opted to construct two separate frames and rivet them together to complete the assembly. The rear frame is much more prone to rotting than the front. The rear frame is apparently made of much poorer quality steel and consumer advocacy groups called for a recall, but nothing ever happened. My 1999 ranger is badged 4×4 Off-Road, which they ended in 2000, replacing it with just a 4×4 badge on the tailgate. Ford added the FX4 badging toward the end, as well as revived the "Splash" trim at another time. | my first truck was a Ford ranger 2001 honestly as a brand i hate Ford but that ranger was indestructible. i had a buddy with one that got stuck mudding and it flooded the whole engine was underwater for a week it finally got pulled out and we turned over the engine without spark plugs in it to make sure it didn't hydrolock and changed the oil and it started and drove like nothing happened. if you do get a ranger get a manual and 4x4 its a cheap reliable little truck oreillys uses them as fleet vehicles. but you also cant go wrong with a tacoma i just wouldn' ... | |||||

| ... Pennzoil Platinum I normally use until I saw that TSB. I would stick with the heavier weight oil in these old Ford engines with high mileage. I have 274k miles and usually go through around a quart or so every 5,000 miles, and I noticed on the thinner oil I went through a bit more on a 4,000-mile change. I don't have any noticeable leaks, so I assume a little more got around the rings and burned. I changed back to 5W-30 weight. | |||||

| ... well. They made them too cheaply, plain and simple. The standard transmissions are now made in China and the automatics are a version of the disastrous GM-Ford joint venture. The transmissions were so badly designed, both GM and Ford swear they will never work together again. I have a 1999 Ford ranger with 293k miles on it. I've owned it since 251k miles, and I've never seen the check engine light come on. It works, too. | My son has a 1998 Ford ranger 2.5l (4 cylinder) He replaced the head on it and all is well now but battery light stays on? Alternator and Battery both check out to be ok. Runs fine at night time with lights on (thats usually how I test if alternator is bad haha). When at idle, it idles rough and shakes, at a light it will stutter before moving. If AC is on it is worse (I think it sometimes dies if AC is on and he presses the gas from a stop). | You have other options available to you other than using remans or buying a new ranger. For example, you could buy another used truck No. A reman engine, 2 turbos and labor would easily surpass half the vehicles value. I wouldn't. KKB's list the top value as $11,000 so the truck isn't worth 16 grand. In good condition with 262K miles the truck is worth, at most, $11,000 . | |||||

| I've been searching for a Ford ranger with under 50K miles because of their reliability and longevity. I've been really trying to stick with a standard manual transmission and a 4 cylinder engine but I found a deal that seems good enough to cave on. It's a 2010 ranger, no rust, 12,800 miles, 2 wheel drive, 4cyl with an Automatic transmission.(I know, crazy) It's from a dealership, the carfax shows routine maintenance was done regularly at a dealership close by. | For that price, if it runs and drives, you're making off like a bandit. As long as rust isn't taking over the frame and the truck hasn't overheated due to that leak, the rest is wear and tear. If you have the 3.0, you could have another 100k+ miles ahead. My 3.0 ranger has 281.6k miles and it goes up by 50 miles every weekday. The muffler may be causing the CEL, but I don't think that truck is as sensitive as new ones. As long as the cats are there and both O2 sensors are working, the light probably isn't due to that. I broke the EGR valve's vacuum solenoid for my 1999 ranger and drove it that way for a week. It never tripped the CEL, and the light works. Get a scan tool and read the code. | |||||
