| MKZ radio cuts out when engine starts & runs | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | rjommer | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 2010 mkz 104,000 mi - when I am running the engine /driving, the radio indicates it's on but no sound. If I stop the car and turn off the engine, the speakers come back on. Sometimes if I let the radio play before I start the engine (key in ACC position) and then start the car the speakers may not cut out - I get lucky every so often. Lincoln dealers say they never heard of that type of problem, but for $149, they'll do a diagnostic and maybe will identify the problem. This problem seemed to start after the dealer changed my battery because I never h ... | |||||

| Of the 2 the Lincoln, but neither of those would my in my choice list. I'd go for the Avalon, or Camry. You could also get a comparable Lexus, but the "Lexus" is gonna be more expensive. | |||||

| MY 2013-2016 (albeit not the year OP is asking about) for that generation also had the 3.7L Duratec V6 as well as 2.0L Duratec for the hybrids, which we are also not recommending for long term reliability for that generation. | |||||

| This new generation had two engine options: 2.0 I4 and a 3.0 V6. The 2.0 I4 is a turbo EcoBoost design, not the best for long term reliability. However, the 3.0 V6 is a twin-turbo EcoBoost. Neither are going to last that long. Modern Lincoln vehicles are consistently being ranked as the least reliable brands by many reliability measures. It also has a Ford automatic transmission known for its problems as it ages. I would avoid this vehicle. You can do better for the money. | |||||

| I would avoid it. Seeing the price also makes me think its a used car lot. Either way, that is too much for one of those and they don't tend to last. The engines are not designed for longevity, and the transmissions are weak. | |||||

| You didn’t say the mileage. For that MY (and other years), you had the 2.0L Ecoboost I4 which was GDI and came standard. But you could also get a 3.7L Duratec V6 (optional) which was port injected. And there was a hybrid offered too. But the 3.7L V6 engine had the water pump driven by a timing chain which could potentially take out the whole engine if it leaked. Even getting to the water pump required taking part of the engine apart - just a nightmare. In short, if that vehicle is already approaching 100,000 miles, neither engine option (2.0L GDI Ecoboost or 3.7L Duratec) nor the hybrid would be good for long term ownership and therefore the vehicle should be avoided. | |||||

| I wouldn’t buy it. The motors in those are GDI and most likely turboed. Unless prior owner knew about carbon build up and took measures to mitigate that. I would steer clear. I wouldn’t doubt there is probably a good amount of carbon build up. | |||||

| Maxima could last a good 100k miles or 8 10 years but not really anything after that unless you are fine with paying 5 6 thousand dollars to replace the transmission. | |||||
