| Are aftermarket brake rotors any good? | 36Relevance | 5 years ago | jfs1988 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue SL CVT FWD with 65000 in the odometer. I took it yesterday to Firestone for a Wheel Alignment, Tire Rotation, & brake Inspection that I program every 5000 miles. It looks like the original brake pads and brake rotors are on there way out. I didn't want to know the Firestone quote because it will give nightmares in my sleep. I looked at Oreilly Auto Parts for brake Pads & brake Rotors and what I don't like is that the brake Rotors don't come in pairs as each rotor has to be purchased separately. brakeBest Select brake Rotor Front - $56.99 each ($113.98 for 2) brakeBest Select brake Rotor Rear - $54.99 each ($109.98 for 2) brakeBest Select Premium Ceramic Front Disc brake Pads - $51.99 brakeBest Select Ceramic Rear Disc brake Pads - $47.99 (Premium wasn't available) The total would be $346.85 which is still kinda high but not as much as would Firestone or Nissan would quote for the parts. 1AAuto.com has a TRQ ceramic brake pad and rotor set for $204.95. There is also a performance set for $199.95. The performance set is more expensive but has the higher discount. The performance brake rotors are cross drilled and slotted. One thing that I am skeptical is that the brake rotors from Oreilly Auto Parts are cast iron while the ones from 1AAuto are cast alloy. I know its better to go not too cheap and things like this. | |||||
| What is the proper or best way to use the parking brake? | 27Relevance | 4 years ago | Surge | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The way I started doing it is position the car, then with it still in gear, set the brake, and then put it in park. Should I be putting it in neutral after I set it so it can rest on the parking brake before I put it in park? Or is it okay to just set it and directly put it in park after that? I don't want there to be any unnecessary stress on the parking pawl, even though I generally don't park on any steep roads. | |||||

Check parking brake system warning message comes up at random times, sometimes it stays on for longer period of time, sometimes after switching the engine on and off the message is gone- i also seem to have issue with My speed limiter. Any suggestions based on your experience would be very welcome. Just to confirm- brakes are behaving just fine, so as the parking brake. Im puzzled 🙁

| Even on newer cars with electronic parking brakes it can be used in the case of an emergency so again no matter what you want to call it it can be used in the case of an emergency when the normal brake system does not function. | |||||

| I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, and my service parking brake light keeps coming on, and when I go to put it in the park the parking brake will automatically turn on then I will have to release it. I have that option turned off in my radio settings. Would you have any idea why that is happening, and how much it will cost to be fixed? | |||||
| American use of the handbrake (ebrake) | 35Relevance | 5 years ago | Juderson | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty I wonder if you could do an educative video on the use of a handbrake, I understand that in the US you guys refer to it as an emergency brake. In New Zealand we are taught to pull the handbrake when parking the car and for hill starts regardless if the car is manual or automatic, it's required to pass the drivers license test. I noticed in American movies that in a scene where they park a car, the car shifts slightly forward and back after parking which is due to putting the car in Park and taking the foot off the brakes without pulling up the ha ... | |||||

| I had the "brake lights stay on" problem on a 93 MR2 - it was a brake Light Stop Pad - here is a link on the issue, which very well could be your problem "The brake pedal stop pad, or brake light stop pad, is a small stopper that pushes in the brake light switch to turn off your brake lights when the brake pedal is not depressed. It is found attached to the brake pedal arm under the dashboard. It is usually made of plastic and can wear out over time. If you notice plastic pieces on your floorboard and your brake lights stay on when the brake pedal is not depressed, you may need a new brake pedal stop pad or brake light switch." | |||||

| Hey Scotty. How do you manually release the electronic parking brake on a 2025 Camry if it won't start? I live in NY. This is my first new car. 2025 Toyota Camry LE. I bought it on July 29th 2025 and it broke down in PA on Aug 14th, 16 days later with about 350 miles on it. While still in NY the key fob failed to be recognized by the car. I had to tap it to the start button to get it to recognize. Thought it was odd but figured maybe it was a bad battery. I drove home to PA to see family with no issues. A few times in PA I had to tap the fob to the ... | |||||

Randomly it will turn on, but key on engine off, the pre test it does not illuminate. When I crank is the only time it turns on and for just crank time. | How Hard Should I Set My Parking Brake | 27Relevance | 5 years ago | Elon Dusk | Submit Your Question HERE
| I have always set my parking brake when I park to protect the transmission. I had an electronic one in my old 2015 Fusion and it set the pressure by itself. I had no control over it. | If I park on an unfamiliar slope, I'll engage the parking brake, put my car in neutral and take my foot off the brakes to make sure it's holding. If it is, I'll put it in park. My driveway is sloped, and so is my work parking lot, those have become muscle memory. This process is not really necessary, but I do it anyways. Typically you feel the brake engage when the lever becomes hard to pull or step on within a short travel distance. If it has no resistance until an extreme is reached, the parking brake needs adjusted, or you might need brakes changed. My t ... | |||||

| So when you press the brake pedal you fry the fuse. You have a power short to ground. But you don't have just 1 brake light fuse, you have 3 brake light fuses. Let's look at them. (This is your underhood fuse box) I color coded a box around each of them. Now let's look at the same color code being applied to the part of the brake light circuit which each of those 3 fuses protects. If you aren't used to wiring diagrams don't concern yourself with the entire diagram. It will make you dizzy. Just look at the part I color coded and start from Upper Left. See how the red colored circuit comes from the fuse labeled STOP LP and goes into and out of the Stop Lamp Switch on the top of your brake pedal? See how that same fuse labeled STOP LP provides power to the fuses labeled VEH STOP (lower brake lights) and VEH CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Light) when the brake pedal is pushed? So what can you do with this? Well, if the STOP LP fuse is frying (Red circuit) when you push the brake pedal, you can remove the VEH STOP and the VEH CHMSL fuses and see if it still fries. If it does then that's a pretty good clue that there's an issue with the brake lamp switch or its connector down there at the top of your brake pedal. Inspect the wires at the connector for damage, and if you find none, replace the brake lamp switch down there. If the VEH STOP fuse is frying (Blue circuit) then that's a pretty good clue that you should inspect the wiring, connector, and the bulb sockets (remove the bulbs) back at your brake light housing. Look for corrosion/rust in the socket. And I'm just throwing this in there because this shouldn't affect your turn signal lights, but if the CHMSL fuse were frying you'd do the same thing. Inspect the wiring, connector, and bulb socket at the Center High Mounted Stop Light. | |||||
