| Car: Buick Park Avenue 2003 (Standard) - 180k Miles - Automatic Hello! I was driving my car to work when all of a sudden my wheel locked up, pressing the gas did nothing, and the car stalled out so I pulled over. I waited a while, tried to start the car again, but when turning the key in the ignition, not even a click happened, but the lights and AC and such would come on. | Hello, car enthusiasts! I have a question about my Buick Century. I've had the rear strut assemblies replaced on my Buick Century 3 times in the past year or so. The originals were starting to squeak so I figured I'd get some new ones. Well, unfortunately, no matter how good the heavier duty sway bar links are, no matter the fact that we put new, good high quality Wheel Hub assemblies on and new drum brakes + hardware (all professionally installed)... it keeps making a bit of a clunking with all the strut assemblies. | I don't think there are any at this point. Even traditional "American" manufacturers are using many imported parts and in some cases (like Buicks made in China) importing entire vehicles. Also, the overall quality of "Big 3" vehicles has been very poor in recent years. To find something truly American made with mostly American parts you'd probably have to go back at least 40 or 50 years. (Even the old 1985 AMC Eagle I used to own was made in Canada!) | Dear Scotty, I currently have a 2016 Buick Encore 1.4L 4 Cylinder turbo that has a little more than 89k miles on it. For the last year I’ve noticed that the transmission has been shifting more and more roughly. As of late it will jerk really hard when shifting from 2nd into 3rd, then get stuck, and refuse to accelerate. | Personally, I'd make sure to buy something absolutely horrid like a cheap high millage Buick Encore and make her promise she'll pay for the repairs on her own - After paying for a new engine, having to deal with rebuilding a transmission, getting stranded a few times, her next car would definitely be a 0 thrills Toyota! | Okay look. Things are not coincidental. They worked on the car. You drive it out and that code comes on for inefficient catalytic converter. If they didn't do the correct throttle or the work that they did or even something as dumb as they put a PCV valve that is incorrect, it can change the flow of air in the vehicle, make the air fuel ratio imbalanced and then the catalytic converter will not run correctly and trip that code. Things just don't go bad while they're working on the car by themselves. That's a fact. | |||||

| Hello Everyone. Vehicle 2002 Buick Century 3.1L engine Problem: Intermittent variation in Idle Speed. Bought the car with the following conditions. a- Horn must be in short. Fuse was removed by previous owner. If I put fuse horn activates. b- Instrument Cluster Panel non operating. | It's a new GM product and given their bad quality I would hate to say you can expect a lot of problems. You can keep on top of maintenance but nothing more than that as their quality is bad in general. | |||||

| No one has a crystal ball for what a 1 year old car may or may not need in the future. That being said GM's quality has gone down for years and any turbo 3 cylinder isn't exactly built with longevity in mind. Stay on top of routine maintenance and keep your fingers crossed. | |||||

| Have you performed any of the diagnostic steps to determine the actual cause of the P420 code? (There are several.) Search the board regarding the lacquer thinner issue, it has been brought up here quite a few times. | |||||

| The engine you have is 100% German and loves to give owners $5,000 repair bills - there's a 3 year wait on replacement engines. The worst thing you can do is ignore issues and trying to drive it. Do not drive it, scan codes, report back. | |||||

| ... that RWD 8 speed is the Mobis version of the ZF 8 speed and that specific version holds up reasonably well. | I have a 2014 Buick Encore that has been nothing but problems but most recently, after going to a repair shop three times, the car now has a rough idle and when I am stopped the idle dips several thousand RPMs. The first time we brought the car in was to address a coolant smell and they replaced the fan speed component on the radiator. That didn't solve the coolant smell and he found a leak in the water pump and replace that along with the PCV hose.
