| Answer to: Opinion on Diablo Sport Tune for 2002 Ford Ranger | 21Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... and was Ford's first engine that was designed for fuel injection from the start. It was meant to be a simple, easy to maintain engine for the 1st generation Ford Taurus and not anything fancy. The heads and block are cast iron, which is how they made engines for a long time up to that point. It was never upgraded to support variable valve timing due to its roots in tried and true engine architecture. It was retired in 2006 or 2007, the Duratec 3.0 replaced it in non-Ranger applications and has no relation to the Vulcan. It has VVT and all of the other stuff ... | |||||

| ... 8000 Miles and my wife's little truck is every 4000 miles, but I figured with so many miles on this I would do it every 3000 miles. As funny as it may sound I don't believe I'll be putting more than 3000 miles a year on it. Kind of bought it as just a Getaround / Fishing truck if i go on them beach. It could be my imagination but as far as the Tacoma goes I think its a smaller truck. I'm 6 ft 8 and 300 lb and fit pretty well and the Ford ranger! I do have a little front end Shake at speeds above 45. Possibly after Christmas I'll have the funny and checked ... | |||||
| Engine dies while backing up into driveway. Engine light stays on. 1997 Ford Ranger Splash | 21Relevance | 5 years ago | truckman | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 1997 Ford ranger Splash 105,527 miles, automatic, codes P0174, P0171, P1121 Hi Scotty, my 97 Ford ranger Splash starts up and runs fine on the road, no leaks either. But the main problem is the engine light stays on and sometimes when I backup into my driveway the engine dies and I need to restart, and yes it does startup easily with no idling problems. Also, one time I made an abrupt stop at the stop light and the engine died and I couldn't get back into park to startup for about 5 mins after trying to turn the steering wheel to get back into gear. The ... | |||||
| Answer to: 2024 Mustang GT Electrical Issues | 21Relevance | 3 months ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Probably the whatever you paid for the car originally. "Sticker price" is the vehicle's MSRP, if you paid less than MSRP for it, you'll get it back. Auto manufacturers don't like to give money away without a fight. Hopefully I'm wrong but given Ford's relatively recent track record with Ford Fiestas having transmission problems and selling those cars anyways, I don't have high hopes for your situation. My wife and I both have 2017 Mustangs, and they constantly have their check engine lights illuminating because of Ford's cheaply designed and built EVAP syst ... | |||||

| RE: Should I put ethanol free gasoline in my car | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | real jbarker | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Older Ford ranger trucks before 2009, (not sure which year Ford changed the computer settings to run well on ethanol gas), run better with no ethanol. The Ford ranger trucks we have had were shutting off at stop lights until we realized the problem was the ethanol gas. Unless someone knows of any other reason, we couldnt find anything else to fix that problem. | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy a 1999 Ford Explorer? | 16Relevance | 1 year ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| That generation Explorer is built on the same frame as the Ford ranger. The front and rear frames were made as separate pieces and riveted together when they made the truck. Ford used a subquality rear frame compared to the front, with a tendency for the crossmembers to rot if it has been exposed to salt over the years. My 1999 ranger's rear frame is that way. A crossmember is almost fully rotted out. The front frame is still solid. | |||||
| Answer to: 2020 Ford F-150 Using Excessive Oil | 21Relevance | 5 years ago | Mod_Man | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Sorry to hear about your F150 troubles. As others have said, I went to war with Ford over my 2018 doing the same thing your 2020 is. My advice to you would be to get a paper trail going with the dealership. If you haven't done an oil consumption test yet, I would take the truck in, explain your issue, and they will ask you to do one. Most likely they will also replace the PCV valve which was Ford's initial fix (it doesn't work). It is going to be super inconvenient because Ford requires an oil level check at the dealer every 200 miles. Yeah, I was ... | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy this Ranger | 21Relevance | 3 years ago | Dad2LM2 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Welcome new member, hard to say if that’s a good price, seeing as truck prices are all catywampus these days. But a few thoughts: 1) is that the true miles? A car fax check might be worth it here 2) $13k is not a lot for a good low mile truck, but it’s a lot for a 20 year old ranger. 3) what’s the REAL reason they’re selling it? Gonna need a thorough tire kicking (ie, professional inspection). Any deferred maintenance or undisclosed flaws would be a deal breaker at that price 4) any vehicle that age will need a lot of care and feeding. Be prepared to get your hands dirty on a regular basis Good luck! (PS: YouTuber “Sarah-n-tuned” recently did a resto on a ranger of about that vintage, and the notorious ChrisFix has recorded several projects on his Mazda truck, which is basically the same thing. I don’t know if Scotty has posted any ranger videos, but he’s done a ton of stuff on vehicles around that age. That plus the Haynes manual should set you up pretty good to do your own repairs.) | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy a 2018 Ford F-150 V6? | 20Relevance | 2 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The GM-Ford 10-speed has given both Ford and GM massive headaches. They jointly designed the transmission, which ended up being so bad, GM and Ford swore they will never work together again. They've had multiple recalls regarding the lousiness of it. Knowing both Ford and GM, they're probably band-aiding them until they hit 5 years old or 60,000 miles and then it magically becomes your problem, not Ford's. The engine is also way too small for the application. I have an old 3.0 in my 1999 Ford ranger, which is a compact truck. It has 293k miles on it a ... | |||||
| Answer to: 80s Ford Bronco ii | 16Relevance | 3 years ago | Kaizen | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The Ford Bronco II is basically a Ford ranger underneath it all. I’m not to sure of eithers reliability. But the ranger reliability might be worth looking into to get an idea about the Bronco II. The Bronco II, isn’t really a “Bronco” IMHO. If you like the II, that is fine, but I think it is important to note it really isn’t a “Bronco”. | |||||

| RE: Can I swap my 1996 Ranger motor into a 2006 model? | 16Relevance | 2 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Surprisingly, you can get old 5.0 SHOC engines in a ranger. The ranger and Explorer were platform mates back in the day. The automatic wasn't built for V8 power, though, so you'd have to source a manual, which also requires a retune or replacement of the ECU. Haha | |||||
| Answer to: For ranger | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| You need to at least specify the year and model of your ranger. Assuming you mean an old ranger, there are three generations, each of which has a different dashboard. Engine and transmission doesn't really affect this within generations to my knowledge- unless what you broke is part of the center bezel and you have a 4×4, not a 2x4. It also covers all bases, and is a requirement when you ask questions- it's stated at the top of the page. | |||||
