Hello Scotty I want to know your opinion on a 2018 Ford F-150 with a 10 speed automatic transmission and the 2.7 v6 I am interested in purchasing a truck and the only thing that is stopping me is the engine. I don’t tend to be towing I just want this vehicle for my everyday use to work.

I would think twice about the lousy 10-speed transmission as well.

The GM-Ford 10-speed has given both Ford and GM massive headaches. They jointly designed the transmission, which ended up being so bad, GM and Ford swore they will never work together again. They've had multiple recalls regarding the lousiness of it. Knowing both Ford and GM, they're probably band-aiding them until they hit 5 years old or 60,000 miles and then it magically becomes your problem, not Ford's.

The engine is also way too small for the application. I have an old 3.0 in my 1999 Ford Ranger, which is a compact truck. It has 293k miles on it and counting. I drive it every day, and the displacement is reasonable for being a compact. The only thing giving that engine any oomph is the direct injection and the turbochargers. The second one of those fails, your half-ton truck will be an absolute dog.
