Which tire pattern rotation should I use?

Hi there!

According to my 2005 Scion xA's Owner's Manual, tire rotation is done front-to-back, but in many tire-related websites, front wheel drive cars should use the forward-cross method. My car has all-season tires on it, so is there a preferred pattern I should use?

TIA for your help,

Rich

It depends if the tires are directional, so they only work on one side of the car. In that case a H  rotation is the only way to go.

If not, the forward cross rotation should be good. I use that on my matrix with my non directional, non winter tires.

Your FWD car has a temporary (donut) spare tire and uses non-directional tires. The tires can be rotated front-to-back and back-to-front without issue. While you can cross the back tires before moving them to the front, it will have a negligible effect on tire wear. I have a 96 Tacoma (RWD) and the tires have never been crossed, front to back pattern only.

Did the vehicle originally come installed with directional tires from the factory?

Does it still have directional tires installed, presently?

Currently, the tires are Goodyear Assurance All-Weather-

Those aren't directional tires.. a stock Scion doesn't need directional tires. (if it did it would be in the owners manual)

I've replaced the tires a couple of times, so the original ones are long gone. Currently, the tires are Goodyear Assurance All-Weather--by the looks of the tread, they don't appear to be directional; there's no mention one way or the other on their website ( https://www.goodyearautoservice.com/en_US/tires/assurance-all-season/5492-40773937400000.html).

it'll say on the tire
