Hi Scotty I’m a 17 highschool student who’s been getting really into cars and I’m looking to buy my first new car and was looking at the Dodge Challenger since it was what introduced me to the car scene but I know you thoughts on the dodge brand so I just wanted to make sure it was worth the purchase

No, do not buy it.  Insurance will be higher, and they will become money pits as they age.    As a 17 year old, you want a first car that is reliable and won’t drain your wallet.  I recommend a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic instead.

I too wanted a challenger, and the one I went to see had 16,000 miles on it and it already had oil dripping down the whole motor down to the transmission pan. I did not buy the car for that reason. If it wasn't for me getting under the car with a flash light i would have bought that car. Two weeks later the dealer called me up and told me the car was a thousand dollars cheaper. The car is a money pit. It would not be a good first car for you to buy unless you have a money tree out back. The car looks awesome though, but they are not worth it. Dodge builds junk. But it is pretty junk though.

No don't buy a Challenger especially as a teen. Common advice is to avoid all FCA products (Fiat, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge...)

This is a personal opinion but like everyone said, definitive no. I like to see it in a certain way, so here are two important factors to consider in a first car:

Money: Car is expensive, uses a ton of fuel, high insurance cost, unreliable (more money just to keep driving it), tickets (grabs police attention and it will make you or tempt you to go way past the speed limit)

Crash: You will very likely crash it, not because you are a bad driver, but because:

- This is your first car and you are unexperienced, you will crash, dent, hit, scratch and/or beat it (maybe all of them)

- Challenger is a fast car with Rear Wheel Drive. Don't mean to be so dramatic, but it is so easy to lose control, you could seriously injure yourself or others. Especially as a first car.

Scotty would tell you to run away.

I had a 2014 R/T and loved it. But it was not without issues. I sold it at 38k miles when the engine started throwing codes for misfires.

I love the design, but hate the quality. Plus they are asking too much for them these days. At 17, your insurance would cost a fortune for even a V6 SXT. It's not a good first car. Not the best visibility, poor quality, and large size. Try a Corolla or a Civic.

I heard they have electrical problems as they age. And it happens sooner rather than later.
