Hey Scotty I have an 03 Honda Odyssey with 210,000 miles on it. Last week, I found out that the 21 year old factory alternator was going out when a red battery light suddenly started appearing on the dash, so I replaced the alternator with a new one. It cleared up the battery light and everything was clear. After 600 miles on that alternator (rebuilt O'Reilly alternator) it died suddenly all at one time. I went back and got another O'Reilly alternator and replaced it again. The battery light remained on this time, as well as all the door lights and the brake light. After testing everything and driving 400 miles (this happened on vacation), the battery and alternator are working properly and it drives just fine and the alternator charges the battery. How can I get the battery light and door lights to turn off? There isn't a check engine light or any codes. Thank you!
You could have a bad battery cable or a bad ground connection on the negative battery cable.
Look up "voltage drop test" on you tube.
Do the tests on your battery cables.
Voltage drop makes an alternator work too hard and burns them out
@jack62 I just did a voltage test and everything came back okay. The connector to the terminal isn't burning this time. I'm now over 600 miles on the new alternator and everything runs great. The lights are still on, however. My next thought is maybe the BCU (body control unit) got fried either by the alternator or one of the four jumps I was given to get my car to a spot I could work on it. Thoughts?
