04 Civic Hybrid key stuck P(ark) doesn't light on dash

Doesn't start unless you stick a key or screwdriver into the interlock release hole to select Neutral on shift lever. Also, the key won't release unless you unhook the battery.

Through continuity testing, found out the neutral safety switch didn't register Park (eventhough it's in position). Shorted pins 1 & 6 on the harness, which then lit up P on the dash & let me release the key. You'd think that it's modern enough to give a P0705 so it would come up immediately as a neutral safety switch issue, but no.

A new switch is very expensive & it's rare to find them in junkyards, about 2x the price on eBay. I can live with the extra step of putting it in neutral, but having to unhook the battery just to release the key is annoying. Is there a way to bypass the switch while being able to take out the key temporarily until I can find a cheap permanent fix? Thanks.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I saw some guy install a hidden kill switch.  He put the switch in the boot of the manual shifter.  And you would have to toggle it to turn the car on.  It doesn't have to be in the boot, but I think the idea is sound.  A jerryrigged kill switch should do the trick.
