167,000 2004 GS430 Replaced both the alternator and battery after having battery light and car die while driving. Output voltage on reman Denso alternator when read at the battery terminals seems low at 13.2 at idle. Will top out around 14.3. Is this normal? Also, I'm getting 5.3 g/s through the MAF and car tends to trim fuel instead of adding. Should I check anything?
you didn't say what happened after you replaced the alt + batt
Is it still dying or are you still getting the light?
Everything seems normal other than the village fluctuation. I'm starting to think it's proper voltage regulation due to the battery being 12.56 off the shelf
Everything sounds fine to me. Motor on.
What are the correct readings for modern cars? Thanks, Joe.
anywhere from 12.9 to 15.5V depending on battery state of charge, ambient temperature, charging mode, switched loads in the vehicle, what the engine is doing, and even if brakes are applied. It can get very complex. I can send you some articles if you'd like.
Thanks, Joe.
Alternator should be reading about 14.5 volts at idle. The MAF reading should be approximately the displacement of the engine. You didn't say what engine you had.
Well....I drive a GS430. So, I thought it gave it away. My bad. And thanks for the absolute general advice. The battery always has a surface charge over 12.6 when I'm through driving it.
doc that's not true of modern cars. I think I've mentioned this to you before.
