Scotty, I have a ‘77 Scout 2, 345 w/727 trans. Has 52k orig miles, I’m 3rd owner, know the other 2. Has sat since 2012. Doing a full restomod. Would you add AT205 to the engine or take it all apart & replace seals & gaskets?
Additives = “I plan to junk it, let’s try to get another couple of thousand of miles out of it”
rebuild = “I plan to keep the car”
finding used parts are somewhere in the middle.
The AT-205 is a temporary bandaid at best. Reseal the engine properly and you won't have to worry about it again for decades.
That was my original thot, then a mechanic friend said just run it, and Scotty talked about AT205 & the Bars additive to rejuvenate seals. I’m having trans rebuilt & new low stall torque converter, so it made sense to pull engine at same time. I’m converting to TBI, otherwise engine will be stock. At 52k for an IH block, it’s just getting broke in, but I don’t want to have to pull it later for rear main. I have the equip & 2 post lift, 990 sq’ garage, so could do body off if needed. So that’s another question - is it easier in the long run just to take the body off?
This is such a great classic that I think it deserves to have all the soft parts replaced with new. You'll be glad you did.
why do any of that?
If it runs, drive it.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right so rebuild the engine.
Sounds odd that the odo hasn't rolled over yet.
