About 2 weeks ago my bosses uncle gave me a 1986 oldsmobile cutlass supreme it was running fine until I did an oil change 4 days ago. Since then it randomly shuts down while I'm going down the road.  Sometimes it shuts down when I'm at a stop but most of the time not loses power whole im going down the road at about 40 mph. I have replaced the fue, air and oil filters to no avail. It is frustrating me to the point where I was screaming and hitting the hood for 10 minutes this morning.

I'm not quite sure you did anything wrong doing the oil change. This problem may have occurred even if you hadn't changed the oil.

V-6 /V-8 engine, carbureted, HEI Distributor. It was quite common for the ignition modules  to do this.  There is the possibility that it could also be the ignition coil or the distributor pick up coil. So, before you go willy nilly and replace the ignition module you need to check a few things.

Distributor pick-up coil resistance.

AC voltage generated by the pick up coil while cranking the engine.

Check the resistance of the ignition coil primary and secondary windings.

Perform a spark check to see how much open circuit voltage the secondary ignition system can produce.

I replaced the module 2 days ago and found some busted vacuum hoses yesterday so I fixed those and now she only shuts down if waiting top long at a red light. (Fan clutch needs to. e replaced and I don't know how to do it)

There are probably more vacuum leaks. Might try changing the carburetor gasket and the intake manifold gasket.
