Hi Scotty, I can't get the alternator to move to install the belt. I loosened one side of the pivot bolt under the alternator, but other side is stuck, is there a hack to get the belt on? I don't have a torch to heat the bolt. Any way to pry up the alternator or something? Thanks!
Something wide like a putty scraper...get the belt on as much as possible, position scraper to wedge belt onto pulley as someone tries by hand (DON'T crank over engine with starter) to pull belt around other pulleys.
I have the same pickup and I’m currently in the process of changing the alternator.
First off the bolt on the bottom has a nut on the back end. You need to put a wrench on both ends. It’s easier from the bottom than the top, BTW. Just loosen it for now.
Second, the top bolt is the tension adjuster. Just turn that loose by not remove it. Now you can replace or remove the belt.
To tighten or put tension on the belt. I use a pry bar or long thick screw driver to press the alternator away from the engine block. It may be hard to see if you have power steering, because the pump is above the alternator. Once you put enough tension to take out the slack in the belt, tighten the top bolt. Then tighten the bottom bolt.
