1992 pontiac sunbird comvertable: keep or scrap

Hey Scotty, recently I won a used 1992 pontiac sunbird convertable with the 3.1 L V6 GM engine and 117k miles for $700 at auction. Truth be told I bid on it expecting someone else would pick it up, but sure enough, now it's mine. Between swapping out the convertable top and getting it fixed up enough to pass inspection, I'm now in it for about $2000 and the day after I got it home from the shop, it began stalling at red lights and refuses to start after a session of driving. I suspect something might be wrong with the fuel pump. All in all, I don't wanna be in this for more than $3000, seeing as I saw a similar sunbird with the weaker engine and about the same miles go on craigslist for $4000. If I'm smart, how much more work do you think this thing will need before I can actually drive it reliably while still remaining under my target price?
