Hello. We own a 2013 Ford Explorer (police interceptor) with 202k miles. Recently during an oil change, the mechanic pointed out a transmission leak coming from a line to/from the transmission cooler. This is being caused by it rubbing against a screw or something. Replacing the transmission cooler is an estimated $1450.00. The SUV seems to run ok and doesn't burn oil (yet). We have spent a considerable amount of money in repairs on this thing over the past 3-4 years. I'm starting to wonder if we should start shopping for a new vehicle or just fix the transmission leak. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Why is the mechanic proposing to replace the entire transmission cooler if it is only a line that is damaged? Is the part that is damaged integral to the cooler?
@chucktobias according to repair shop, the part is one piece and can not just replace the line. He sent a picture and the line is not a flexible tube it is solid.
@chucktobias I would fix it and sell it.
the mechanic pointed out a transmission leak coming from a line to/from the transmission cooler@chucktobias 's is right you should be able to buy a rigid replacement line. Regardless, $1450 is a ridiculous price when an OEM cooler(shipped) is only $210.
