My 1993 Geo Prizm is about to turn 176,000 miles and I was wondering if I should change the automatic transmission fluid in it or leave it as is.  It shifts great no issues.  It has the Toyota 1.6 L engine and I'm not sure on the transmission type except it is an automatic and it has no overdrive button on it and I'm curious what transmission it has in it.  Also can the VIN number be used to tell what tranny it has? It's 27 years old and it still runs great, hardly uses any oil and the air conditioner and heater still works great. Thanks in advance.

Since it’s high mileage and you don’t know the service history of the vehicle, do not replace it.

Replacing it now may cause it to start slipping (if the fluid has never been changed).
