Hello I’m hoping you can help me. I change my mass airflow sensor. On my truck. 1996 chevyenne 454 7.4 engine. It was working when I change it. It had a code so that’s why I change the mass airflow sensor. The next day it doesn’t want too turn on no more. And shows the code again. How can I fix the problem.

It had a code so that’s why I change the mass airflow sensor.

What is the code? Most codes have multiple possible causes, did you perform diagnostics to determine the actual cause of the code before replacing the sensor? As others have pointed out here that kind of critical part really needs to be OEM, an aftermarket knockoff is unlikely to work properly.

@chucktobias code was p0102

P0102 can be caused by wiring problems as well as the sensor itself. If you used an aftermarket sensor that could be why you're still having issues. (You haven't said whether you used an OEM sensor or aftermarket.)

@chucktobias yes it’s a oem sensor. I unplug it the mas airflow sensor. I clean the wiring connector with electronic cleaner. It turn on. I left it on for a while then I turn it off. The I went ahead did a couple of times. I thought I found the problem. Then later on tried too turn it on. It will just crank and wouldn’t turn on no more. Do you think it’s a computer problem? Can i disconnect it and clean the connector form the computer? Any advice you can give me I’ll really appreciate

Cleaning the connector with something like De-Oxit is not a bad idea. Check wiring from the sensor back to the computer.  Have you tried reconnecting the old sensor?

You might also start from basics in diagnosing a generic no-start condition in the event that something else in that nearly 30-year-old vehicle has coincidentally failed.

@chucktobias it’s the computer i finally figured it out. Do you have and tips on changing it?

I have not worked on one of those trucks, but with my own vehicles of similar age the computers just plug and play as long as they are the same part number.

Did you use an oem MAF?

Well to begin with, only use OEM sensors. Don't use some crazy cheap Chinese junk from a discount auto parts store. Now. If you used an OEM sensor then either the wiring connector is bad or the wiring has gone bad or the computer module has gone bad. You'd have to test all those

@scottykilmer if it is the computer. Can you give me some tips on how too change it? Do I need too reprogrammed the computer. Or can I just one plug it in and it will work. Thank you for your help

@jorge90810 Scotty doesn't usually revisit topics he has already answered. Does the truck run if you put the old sensor back in?
