Hey Scotty, love your videos. In 1998 I ordered a new Dodge 2500, 4wd, single cab, 5 speed with 5.9L engine. It has 4:11 axles so it's not a hot rod. I know you're not a Dodge fan, but it has been a great truck. It has 225,000 miles and other than regular maintenance, I have put 1 starter, a radiator, water pump, and a rear axle seal . I know it is getting to the age that it will need more maintenance in the near future. The ac compressor went out last summer and I will probably replace the clutch this year. It has started using a little oil because I have a seal leaking. I am now retired but I used it for towing a trailer in my business, towing motorcycle trailer and hauling farm equipment. I wasn't afraid to use it but I have always babied it.The body is still in great shape and the interior is pretty good. A lot of the miles are highway miles. My question is should I keep it or pay for a newer one that is more complicated and probably not as tough as this old girl? Thanks for all you're information!
The old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies to your situation, I think. They built them better when Daimler owned Dodge. My father-in-law has a 1998 Ram 2500 as well, but it's a turbodiesel. His engine was made by Cummins. It has electrical issues, but it's also rusted to heck. Frame's good, though.
