Hey Scotty and community,
I've been looking at the new Toyota vehicle lineup with lots of their vehicles having the 4-cylinder turbo instead of the naturally aspirated V6s and V8s. I've been specifically looking at the new Tacomas and Landcruiser as a possible future purchase, or should I stay away? Do you guys think this will ruin Toyota's reliability reputation or did Toyota do it right and they will still last a long time?
Thanks.
They will not last as long as the older models. The larger, normally-aspirated engines are being phased out primarily due to ridiculous ever more stringent regulations being imposed by politicians and bureaucrats who know nothing about cars, or much of anything. Quality is being reduced as more resources need to be poured into compliance. However moving forward Toyota will probably be the best of a bad lot but you'd want to avoid first year tech.
Probably better than almost anything else new
"reliable" is a relative term.
I'm not a prophet or fortune teller, but I think in the near future, Toyota will probably still be the most reliable car manufacturer. And I'll add another disclaimer "... until congress throws another curveball".
It's difficult to know since they only came out few years. Only time will tell.
