1999 Honda Civic, 145K miles, I read a post about removing a broken PCV valve at the valve covers, but this is a little different. On these 1999 Civic Ex's they put the PCV valve on the motor wall (?) just above the oil filter. Terrible place to try to work. Was trying to replace it. Would not budge. Now broken off, will fall into the oil pan easily. I will try using a dental hook/tool to pull it out, but I don't think I can get enough force. Then I will try a deck screw to grab it, but if those both fail, what happens if I give up and just shove the plastic housing into the motor / oil pan? Will the crank break it up? Will it just go into my oil filter? All the metal parts are out of the PCV valve stub. Just plastic remains. I'm not in a position to deal with removing and replacing the oil pan today.
The forum does have some rough edges, but it's pretty straightforward overall. I would not call a car that has lasted for over a quarter century "disposable", though that PCV setup does sound crazy. (Just about all cars do have some design elements making you wonder what the engineers were smoking that day.)
I'm not familiar with your engine myself so cannot offer specific advice. Possibly someone here has worked on one of those and has a solution. Have you checked Honda-specific forums where there's a better chance someone has experienced this and worked out how to deal with the problem?

I don't understand this forum. Thought I did. Under my post there is another area titled, "YOUR ANSWER", then a topic looking box labeled "Your Question". Then there is this box, whatever this is. Update on broken PCV Valve... . I can't get the remnants out and I can't push them in. Nightmare. This old Civic has been somewhat of a nightmare. You have to remove a motor mount to replace one of the belts, and they recommend removing a mud flap and a front wheel too. Another belt had no screw tensioner and when done the old fashion way, settles into too loose or too tight when you tighten the bolt down, regardless of where you start. None of the sources agree on the correct O2 Sensor(s), and now this PCV Valve falling apart in a location that you cannot reach. Not only can't you reach it from above, you can barely reach it from below, only after you remove the oil filter. But there is still a sensor and cable and a very thick second cable bundle criss-crossing the tiny access area. What a mess. 1999 Ex. Disposable car.
