1999 Toyota Celica : Ignition Control Module buy OEM or after market?

Hello,

So my car has been misfiring and I just replaced the distributor and sparkplugs and wires. I am still having the same problem so I took my car to my local mechanic and he diagnosed that my Ignition Control Module is faulty and that a new one would be $465 + $50 labor to put in. I thought that was insanely expensive so I looked online and found a couple of options.

Aftermarket new ones go for around $30 and an OEM one goes for $160. I'm not sure if I should buy the OEM. Obviously, it has to be better but that is significantly more expensive. Please help thank you

I would always go with the OEM option. If you are buying something like that for 30 bucks then I guarantee it's probably made in China.

Okay, thank you. What about a used OEM one? I see a part on eBay for $37 and it's the exact Toyota part. Claims to have less than 40k miles on it
Here is the link if you wanna see it https://www.ebay.com/itm/222071177326?hash=item33b479406e:g:fpoAAOSwCGVYAr79

If it's legit then I would go for it. But be careful- used OEM parts regardless of what it is a gamble. In this scenario, buy it.

Japanese aftermarket brands such as Denso or NGK should be all right, if available. One of them no doubt made the module for Toyota in the first place.
