Hello, I have a 2008 Honda Civic with 156,000 miles/automatic transmission and I am just wondering can I be able to do a idle relearn without a scan tool. I plan on cleaning the throttle body
the second question is should I stick to the oem antifreeze or can I use the universal coolant. Will it cause damage to the Cooling system if I don’t use the oem antifreeze? Also how often should I change the coolant
thanks.
Please post your second question as a separate question. Thank you for your time.
Stay as OEM as possible on your coolant. The bottle of coolant tells you, usually 5/7 years on new cars, 3/5 years on the older cars. Or your owners manual will say. Always run 70% concentrate coolant 30% DISTILLED Water. 50/50 premix is way too diluted especially in freezing cold climates. I can't help with other question
A 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol antifreeze and water will protect against freezing down to -34 degrees which is more than sufficient for most places. I've run that mixture in Northeast winters for over 50 years with no problems. (If in an area where temperatures fall below that of course one would want a higher concentration.)

There are good reasons not to go beyond 60/40 (at most). At proportions greater than around 65% antifreeze, you are actually RAISING the freezing point of the solution. If it gets below -58F where you are, then you need to look at different compounds.
Also, the more antifreeze you add, the less heat the solution is able to carry away from the engine, AND the thicker the solution gets which makes the pump work harder. Only make it as concentrated as it needs to be for your climate.
This is why premix is sold as 50/50. It's a sweet spot of temp range and heat capacity.
