2000 Buick park avenue v6 starting issues

Initial problems, 1)shaking: needed driver inner tie rod replaced 2) sometimes you had to step on the gas pedal to get it to start.

Initially the car needed to have replaced the driver side inner tie rod. I worked away from home, the wife drove it. She took it for an oil change and they recommended towing it back home, it was bad bad, the wife drove it home anyways. The car sat in the driveway for about a year an a half.  I got some time off and finally got around to replacing parts, it didn’t start, dead battery. Bought and installed the battery, turned ignition, now it just clicked. Ok removed the starter, took it to Autozone, got it checked, apparently the thing was still good. Bought some cleaner, cleaned it real good. Installed it properly, double checked the ground, all good. Went to turn the key, it clicked just like before. I haven’t done anything else to it. I still think the starter is no good, otherwise it would spin right not just click? So I looked up what might be the problem, my mind went to fuel pump (asked the previous owner about the fuel pump, he said he had replaced it, idk about that) before anything else, and relay. Also the maf sensor (I removed it and tried starting it, click), cleaning the throttle body, replacing the air intake sensor and crank position sensor or fuel injectors. One of those has to be it. I’m mostly inclined to think: check the fuel pump relay (if not) replace the starter (if not that) replace the crank position sensor. Ideas? Remember, all it does is click (although at one point the engine did turn very weak like just once though)

The starter can turn an engine with a weak solenoid but after some time it will to weak to turn the engine and will start making a clicking noise but when you pull the entire starter out and have it tested it will spin like brand new because there is no load on the starter. I would start by checking the hot and the ground to the starter first then change the solenoid and if the problem still persist I would turn to starter relay and the ignition switch. Good luck!

@SomeGuyNamedJon can you copy and paste your answer into the ‘Your Answer’ box down below? Thank you.

Odds are the battery is bad. You can jump start the car, if the engine turns over, you need a battery.

New battery, forgot to mention. Everything lights up when battery’s hooked up. I insert the key and it’s like nothing is wrong

You may have a ground issue. Check the ground connections for the starter and make sure that the connections are rust free.
