Stay away. Those cars had some of the worst build quality I have ever seen.

I wouldn't give $1000 for it.

Scotty answered your question about the Cavalier in his latest video I believe about half way through.

ok so looks like if you take care of it its gonna be a decent little car however now im not shure about it because the 1995-2005 is a safety hazard

Yes I thought that was obvious any collision over 30 and your dead.

i mean if you get t boned your dead and in a normal colission the airbag knocks your head into the window cell so thats dumb

Ironic how people say they have the worst build quality when they are literally the same Toyota Corolla rebadged that everyone drools over for lasting forever. What's in a name!?

how much oil do they burn a month?

However much a Corolla would burn. Really depends on the wear and tear put on the engine

well lets say its used for going to the store or resteraunts?

If you're doing that kind of short distance driving, you don't need a ridiculously reliable car. But I can't imagine it would burn that much oil - the early 2000's Toyota's and Scions with that problem didn't start until at least the 2003 model year. Just get it checked by a mechanic if you decide to buy it.

ok sounds good

I remember one of the moderators say that that generation of Corolla bruned more than 1 quart a month but I will check and update.

Now those cars are pretty junky versions of a Toyota Corolla and I remember we explained to you about the oil consumption issues of that generation and $2500 is just a stretch honestly unless you live in California.

Also how can it be in "like new" condition was it grandma driven? Mechanically I doubt it is in that good of shape it is 21 years old and even if it was in good shape I believe it could give you more issues later on just from the fact that it is that old and is a GM product.

I remember you live in Orlando I'll try to find you something better for that price range.

well scoty said it only had oil issues on the 2.4L engines but the 1.8 was just fine witch is what this one has and they can run forever (according to him)

This is a different idea. The 2.4 oil consumption was in a different generation of cars. We are talking about the 1.8 in the 1998-2002 Corollas. Here look at this: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Corolla/2002/

well scotty said it was a rarity and the 1.8 worked fine on his live podcast but i guess ill get the camry then

Everyone has different opinions and you are just focusing on one thing rather than the whole car a car is not just an engine there are other factors please pay attention to our help or else some will just ignore you.

ok Kerem sorry I just wanted to make absolutely Shure this car was crap before telling my friend not to buy one. btw why did moutanmanjoe say he was gonna ban my posting and yet I can still post?

I am confused do you want to get banned?

no but I thought he already did sense he told me he did, can the moderator even do that?

Yes the moderators can do that. They can also put your posts "under moderation" or delete it entirely. The forum rules say "8. No spam. No automated messages, advertisements, or links to competitor websites will be allowed

9. No multiple posts of the same thing, if you continue to make multiple duplicate posts you will be banned"
So yes they can.

ok moutanman tryed to ban me after jsut putting 1 just 1 post asking if the Toyota Yaris is a good car and he responded with your banned for a week, make it 2 weeks for posting 2 times about the impala, witch BTW was not intentional

It was only the 2009-2013 XRS that had the oil consumption issues.

In the US it was only the 2009 XRS the XRS was discontinued afterwards also the 98-02 gen DID have oil consumption issues I belive. Ask @yaser .

In Canada we also had the XRS for 2010.

why did you downvote?

That engine is an oil burner. The rest of the car is not good too. Find another car.

ok got it so 98 Camry? or 2002 Buick Regal?

I go with Camry by far.

Here is your answer:

does the woodgrain mean anything different?

It is a Camry and that is it. It might be a higher trim like an XLE probably.

ok cool i love those cars 😀

Well if you find a good one then buy one then. If you "love" that gen of Camry forget about a Prizm or Cavalier. In the real world the Cavalier/Cobalt cars are worth a third of what the Camries are and I doubt they are listed that much cheaper.

cool I've heard the 1998 Camry's are still good enough to be daily drivers.

Guess what? 90% of Camries sold between 1995 and 2010 are still on the road. (data from a couple of years ago).

wow awesome

That car was a rebaged Toyota Corolla so a 2000 Chevrolet Prism is essentially a 2000 Toyota Corolla. Go ahead and buy it.

Toyota Corolla vs Chevrolet Prism is like Toyota Matrix vs Pontiac Vibe.

You are good at getting Scotty's attention

omg this is like the tenth time.

isn't this the 3rd question answered from me?

Kerem exaggerates like a million times 😉

Well buddy your lucky ok you have 230 posts that says something most of those are questions or questions in comments. Also, it seems like you follow a simple format of "Scotty what's your opinion on a 2000 Chevy Prizm for $2500 with 71k miles in like new condition
"
Basically you ask what he thinks and he answers so I guess your lucky. I have not watched it yet but I am pretty sure he is not recalling the oil consumption issues of that gen of Corolla. I believe it was one of the moderators who brought it up but not sure. Or you could just check out carcomplaints.

i love the corolla's because there Incredibly Basic

lol you're making Kerem jealous

?
anyways, if you like the Corolla, I found them for 2500 or so 2004 and 2006 models go for those they are reliable and newer.

cool, however I prefer manual locks and hand crank windows if that's possible

It depends on trim. You can find roll up windows up to 2008 I believe.
For example you can see hand cank windows in this listing:
https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/roseville-toyota-corolla/7259199765.html
Ignore the price and miles this is California prices lol.

cool, so let me get this straight, the 1998-2002 Corolla, Even with the 1.8L engine have Oil Burning issues but the 1997-2001 Camry doesn't?

Yes, that generation of Corolla DOES have engine issues. Click here to learn more:
https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Corolla/2002/
Most common issues are Excessive oil consumption and engine failure, on average costing $3000 to fix and starting again on average, between 80 and 100k miles.
The Camry did not have those issues, but I must note the worst year out of that generation is 1999 and the most common issue is "check engine light on". Most people fixed it by replacing a sensor which cost on average $260. Again, check this site out and click on a model year and then an issue: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Camry/
Hope this clarifies it and helps you.
Also mountainmanjoe why would I be jealous my posts on the forum are about car news and Scotty responds to them pretty frequently just not on his videos because why would he do that? Very funny Joe thank you...

ok the 2002 says clunker but the 1998 says awsome https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Corolla/1998/

Yes it does because most likely it was less common in the 98 year than the 02. If you go by badges then sure go ahead and risk it. But look at the most common problem which is "Engine", then it goes down to guess what? "Excessive oil consumption." At this point no body gives complaints. For context, my father owned a 1997 Corolla and it was how should I say it? A hunk of junk. But there it says that is is awesome. From the 97 98 year and before, no body bothers to complain or thinks it comes with age. Either way, whatever you buy, make sure to have a mechanic check it out to make sure there are no problems, and take care of it, or else the car will fall apart. If you do take care of it and have a mechanic check it, it might last forever. So many factors involved. I would just look for a 04 05 base model which has the crank windows etc. and is safer and 5 years newer. The price difference is just not there. But you do whatever you want I am just giving you the information I know.

Also have you seen the airbag issues? The one that has 33 complaints has resulted in 6 crashes and 5 injuries in the 98 model year alone? It is an old car so you need to have a mechanic check it out if you find a 98 and a mechanic says everything was fixed, then I guess you should buy it but odds are its an old car and it has issues.

ok Camry for me then

Glad you made a decision, a good one;) I am sick of Cavalier now lol. Good luck Camry shopping.
