Hi Scotty,
I regularly watch your channel. Congrats!!
I am a second owner of this manual 1zz 2000 Celica Gt with about 220k miles on it and ever since I changed the fuel injectors about two years ago, my rpms rocketed from 2.8k rpms at 60 mph to 3k rpms + at barely 50mph.
From that point on the more I accelerate the higher my rpms go ( I got no power loss. The higher the rpms go steadily with the higher mph gauge) but at 70mph my rpms are over 4.8k.+
I tried everything ( I mean it…) and for the life of me I cant figure why in the world my RPMs are so high.
Any advise?
( note that the car currently runs a steady 0.8rpms at idle, no obdII codes. I replaced everything related to the air intake manifold including air hoses, spark plugs, engine valve cover gasket and the throttle body gasket. I replaced the VTT solenoid valve. I also replaced the timing belt chain tensioner and the fuel pressure regulator along with the whole fuel pump.
I replaced the PCV valve.
I replaced the vapor purge solenoid along with the main vapor canister.
I replaced the MAF and both oxygen sensors too.
I looked for air leaks via spray tests and smoke tested as well. No air leaks found.
I replaced the fuel cap and the whole Fuel Filler Neck Gas Fill Pipe.
Nothing I’ve done has lower my high rpms at 50mph.
Help!
Thank you

Did any of the parts that were replaced test as being bad or was this just the parts cannon in operation?
With a manual transmission there is a solid connection through the clutch between the engine, transmission, differential, and finally your drive wheels. The only things that would noticeably change your RPM at any particular speed would be if you modified the final drive or transmission gear ratios, significantly changed tire diameter, you're not actually getting into high gear, or your is clutch slipping.
@chucktobias
I you tubed the hell out of youtube regarding high rpms and their possible solution. No parts I replaced were actually bad. What did happen about 3 years ago is that my transmission was becoming slippery and I ended up taking the car to the mechanic to replace the old transmission.
The transmission is stable at either idle and on the road just runs way to high.
There was no modifications to the replaced transmission (that came also from another manual 2000 celica gt.)
Maybe the timing chain is not syncronized..?
Maybe the timing chain is not syncronized..?
That would not affect engine RPMs on the road. It would make your engine run like crap or not at all. It seems you're grasping at straws and randomly throwing parts at the problem that have nothing to do with it.
Assuming no clutch slippage, with a manual transmission the engine RPM is a function of the overall gear ratio from the engine out to the wheels. There is nothing else.
If the replacement transmission has stock ratios maybe there's a linkage or internal transmission problem where you're not actually engaging top gear. Or, maybe there's a problem with your tachometer. Tossing more random parts at the engine is not going to fix this.

Alright. Got it. Thank you so very much for the comment and the help.
I ll just drive it until is time to replace the trans again. 🙂
Have a blessed one.

I would at least have the shift linkage checked out to see if you are properly engaging top gear. That should not be too difficult to determine.
