Scotty and community. I want to ask about your opinion about fixing up a 2001 Honda Accord VP. My Honda has 310,000 miles and it is missing the catalytic converter due to it not working anymore and the automaric transmission slips when it is cold but works fine when the car is warmed. My Honda won’t pass emissions inspections because of the missing cat. One of the engine valves is also not working properly. Is it worth fixing my Honda despite it’s age or should I just junk it. Thanks.
Have you ever changed the transmission fluid? You could see if that helps. You can also put Lucas anti slip, but if you do realize that is only a bandaid. How many more years/miles do you need out of the vehicle. Depending on your needs it might be worth it.
I’ve owned the vehicle since it had 200,000+ miles but I don’t know the entire history of the car. I checked carfox although I don’t trust the info there and it says the last transmission check was around 70,000 miles. It also needs a new transmission as it lacks one and here in California it would fail the emissions test thus I can’t register it. The engine seems to run fine when it’s warm but it does screech when it is cold and it runs rough but it smooths out once I warm it up.
I also never changed the transmission fluid. Scotty in his videos recommends to never change the transmission fluid if it has never been changed according to when it is time to do it. If I did, the transmission would probably be worse unless I replaced back the old fluid.
It all depends on the condition of your fluid. If you decided to change it I would save the old fluid to be safe. If the transmission is that far gone the car is probably not worth saving.
Thanks for the reply.
With these issues and considering age and mileage, it does not worth putting money in it.
