Had a garage put new timing chain kit in my car.

picked my car up from garage And drove about a mile and car started clicking like the chain was rubbing against the top cover.

took back at slow speed so I didn’t cause any damage it’s still there at garage.

what could it be.

the car has 122000 miles on it and used to drive nice

These engines have two chains and two tensioners.  It sounds like the upper chain tensioner is not working correctly.  Usually, this is because the guy who installed it decided to use a sealer on the gasket between the tensioner and the block, and the squeeze out blocked the little, tiny hole that is the oil feed for the tensioner.  It is spring loaded and oil pressure fed.  This is a very common mistake mechanics make on this engine.  The mechanic thinks he's doing an extra special job using sealer, but it can be disastrous to your engine.  Like the man said - "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

You called it!

Well let's just say those guys really screwed up the job those are interference engines if they would have put the timing chain on incorrectly I could seriously damaged the engine. Now if I knew why the time you change was replaced I could tell more let's say it actually broke if it broken was replaced the engine would have been damaged when it broke in the first place

A relative had a similar problem on a different vehicle and it turned out to be a poorly-made aftermarket chain tensioner. The chain was actually jumping around and hitting the inside of the valve cover. Installing a good used OEM tensioner fixed the problem.

Hi Scotty I had the timing chain kit installed do to noise on cold start for about a minute or two.

then the noise would go away and car would run good after that.

every thing under the hud is new oem parts.

new alternator

new water pump

new s belt

new tensioner

and so on.

the noise that is happening after timing job is coming from top of valve cover over were

the two top spokets are located.

sounds like chain rubbing on top

It’s a shame that you take your car to a auto professional and this is what you get.

plus the loss of your hard working money.

But I do know that things happen in life.
