My daughters 2003 automatic Acura TL with 160,000 miles has an issue where it will not start intermittently. This has been going on for a few months, but has become increasingly more frequent. Our mechanic has checked the fuel pump, battery and starter. he has replaced the ignition switch and a bad relay in the dash.
We have noticed that when the car won't start it will continue to not start for successive tries. If we try several hours later or the next day it will often start right up. Only to mysteriously not start again later that day or maybe a few days later.
The mechanic suggested that it may be a failure of the security chip in the ignition key.
This issue is quite baffling, hoping you might have some insights or suggestions for us.

You should be able to determine if this is an issue with the immobilizer system by observing the security light during starting.

Does the light come on for a few seconds and go out OR does it start blinking?
