Hey Scotty. 2004 ram 1500 4x4 . Less than 160k miles. Has developed what im pretty sure is a flattened lifter. In today's world where machine shops are few and far between, I would usually buy a short block and go from there . But hemi's are expensive, and with the mileage that is has . Do you think it would just be worth taking a chance that the cam is ok and just replacing the lifters? I'm no stranger to rebuilding engine of my own, but I always had the machine shops install the bearings so I knew they were the correct size with the parts I was using . Your thoughts. I know your not a fan of dodge, but its what I've got at the moment. Thanks .
Go ahead and replace the lifters for my experience on those the cams I wear out was designed flaw but what the heck you want to replace the cam then you have to change all the lifters would cost a small fortune you'd be better off getting a used engine or rebuilt one
Thanks Scotty
The Hemis are famous for cheap, failing roller lifters. They also ruin the camshaft. I would pull the heads, get them rebuilt and purchase high quality (NOT Dodge) hydraulic roller lifters and a new high quality(NOT Dodge)camshaft and put it all back together. If you really want piece of mind, get ARP head studs too.
Thanks Doc
