2004 Matrix with bad transmission

Hi Thanks for the advise.
I have a 2004 Matrix base model with a manual 5 speed transmission. Gears are grinding from previous owner abusing it. Is it worth putting a used transmission in it. I bought it for $2600 thinking it was good to go. It has 216k miles on it.

Thoughts?

thanks!

If it's grinding when changing gears it could just be due to the clutch not fully releasing.

One more time - have you tried adjusting the clutch pedal pushrod to specifications in your owner's manual?  It won't grind in neutral because it's not in gear.

No.  Get yours rebuilt.  A used transmission could be the same or worse than what you already have.

Trouble is the cost to rebuild or install a used one costs more than the car is worth!

I should mention it grinds as I drive regardless of which gear I am in and it doesn't grind in neutral. It progressively got worse and at one point locked up and wouldn't even enter any gear. Finally I got it into gear but it wouldn't drive at first. I got it home but with loud grinding and it has been sitting until I decide what to do with it.
