Scotty, Thanks for all your videos! I have a 2004 Prerunner, 4 cyl., that I purchased new with 80,000 miles. I had a rear brake seal replaced a little over a year ago and shortly after I began having a soft pedal issue. I have since taken it back twice and they adjust the brakes and within a sort period of time the soft pedal starts again. Is there a possibility the load-compensating valve is bad and is causing this? Cab this valve be bypassed, is it really necessary? I've asked a couple of mechanics and they seem clueless! I have never pulled anything with the truck and rarely have a heavy load. Thanks for your help!!
It's a problem area, born from rust and corrosion, from what I found. I pulled up an article that should be helpful to you:
https://www.brakeandfrontend.com/tech-feature-brake-job-on-1995-2004-toyota-tacoma/
Thanks but I've seen that along with several other videos and articles. I appreciate your help though! I'm looking for a way to determine is the valve is defective (no rust or leaks) and if it can be safely eliminated from the system since I'm not pulling anything or rarely have heavy loads.
Unless it's leaking, I don't think the valve would cause a soft pedal.
