How do I buy brake rotors

Hello,

I have a 2004 Toyota Camry SE, 3.3L V6, Automatic Transmission, 206,000 miles on it, and it is the American built model (Vin starts with a 4 instead of a J so correct me if I am wrong).

I recently changed the brakes when changing my shocks since I was in there. After doing that it constantly grinds which tells me the rotors need to be replaced toon (they didn't look too bad and I was on a budget so I skipped them. #1 problem right there).

Trying to buy rotors has been an extremely tasking issue and I have no idea which ones to order. This is also why I did not replace them initially. The parts catalog shows that I can order the rotors in a plain hat design, and stepped hat design. I know there is a reason for each design, but when pulling up stock images of the rotors, I can't tell if mine is for sure a plain or stepped hat. To me, it looks like a plain hat, but it looks like I have way more options for stepped hat than plain hat. Then to top it off, it is giving me the option for 275mm and 296mm rotors. I know I can take them off and measure them, but I am trying to tear everything apart as least as possible. Shipping has been a total bear when ordering parts, so I want to make sure I order the right ones so I don't have to return them. I have done plenty of brake jobs before and have ordered a lot of parts. I cannot believe how much time I have spent researching these dumb designs. All help is appreciated.

Thanks.

To get the correct rotors, use you VIN at local stores, so if there's a problem, they can be returned.  Your VIN will dictate what the OEM rotors should be.

Have you tried with local stores? Perhaps you can ask them to try both designs and return the wrong one if they don't know which one is correct for your car.
